Rating Distribution - Chess Forums

I am rated around 1400, but the percentile ranking is 87th. 1400 seems just a bit over the average of 1200, but 87th percentile sounds like a much better rating than average. I'm not sure which to believe. If this is a normal distribution, then it implies that about 75% of all players are in the 1000
