Transformers is an American science fiction action film based on the Transformers toy line which was released in the year 2007. The film combines computer animation with live-action filming and was directed by Michael Bay while Steven Spielberg served as executive producer. It is the first installment in the live-action Transformers film series which was produced by Don Murphy and Tom DeSanto. The film stars Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky who plays the role of a teenager who gets caught up in a war between the villainous Decepticons and the heroic Autobots which are the two factions of alien robots who have the ability to disguise themselves by transforming themselves into everyday machinery, primarily vehicles. The Autobots intend to retrieve and use the AllSpark, which is an object that created their robotic race on Earth, to rebuild their home planet Cybertron and end the war. However, the Decepticons have the intention of building an army by giving life to the machines of Earth by using it. Tyrese Gibson, Megan Fox, Rachael Taylor, Josh Duhamel, Anthony Anderson, John Turturro, and Jon Voight also star, while voice actors Hugo Weaving and Peter Cullen voice Megatron and Optimus Prime, respectively. Murphy and DeSanto made the project in 2003 while DeSanto wrote a treatment.
